Earth Month

  1. Stream Stewards Spring Watershed Cleanup at First State National Historical Park: Beaver Valley Unit

    April 27, 2019, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

    Celebrate Earth Day by giving back to your local national park! Volunteers are needed to help protect the watershed by picking up trash and debris in and around the streams that feed into the Brandywine Creek in First State National Historical Park. Participants will be provided with gloves, pickers and trash bags. This is a free event but online registration is required. Adults, families and groups are welcome! We will provide water and snacks. Please dress for the weather and wear clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty and wet. This event will be held rain or shine.

    Please join New Castle County, DNREC, and community partners as we celebrate Earth Month by demonstrating our shared commitment to protect the environment through the effective application of land use standards and regulations and by highlighting planning tools and resources offered to individuals, communities and land owners to support conservation. This hour-long educational event will be held on Friday, April 26 starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Bayberry North community in Middletown and features a narrated walk along neighborhood pathways ending with a tree planting at the community clubhouse.

The class includes exercise activities and games to get the family moving with sports drills, jump rope, interval training and fun games. All ages welcome. Classes are held every Wednesday starting April 24 from 5:30 to 6:15pm. Class dates are: April 24; May 1, 8, 15 Meet at the base of the sledding hill at the east end of the park and join the team from Bear/Glasgow YMCA for Fit Family Fun.

  2. Glasgow Park Trail Walk

    If you are looking for a moderate morning workout in a gorgeous setting and a way to get those 10,000 steps in, this is the club for you. Trails in this section of the park are nice and shady and have a few very mild hills. There are many trails of various lengths throughout this beautiful natural area. All ages welcomes. Walks are held every Thursday starting April 25 from 10:30 to 11:15am. Dates of walks: April 25; May 2, 9, 16. Meet at Parking Lot C near the playground. Hosted by Bear/Glasgow YMCA.
