Fishing begins at Glasgow Park

GLASGOW, Del. – New Castle County Executive Thomas P. Gordon, County Council President Christopher A. Bullock, and County Councilman David L. Tackett are proud to present a soft opening of the catch-and-release fishing program at Glasgow Park this weekend.

“Fishing Close to Home is Reel Fun” is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, November 21 at Glasgow Park, located just off the junction of Del. Route 896 and Del. Route 40 (2275 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702).

“Glasgow Park was already three hundred acres of fun in the sun, and it just got better with the addition of great fish in the park’s pond,” County Executive Gordon said. “We hope you enjoy it.”

Through the Department of Special Services, the County hired Delmarva Aquatics to stock Glasgow Park’s pond in late October with 650 Large Mouth Bass, Bluegill, and Channel Catfish.

“This fishing pond is a welcomed addition to an already great park,” the Rev. Dr. Bullock said. “I encourage all families, particularly young people, to enjoy the benefits of fishing in New Castle County.”

“I am excited to host another great opportunity to team up with County Executive Gordon and Council President Bullock in hosting this special, fishing event that will provide fond memories for everyone for many years to come at our amazing Glasgow Park,” Councilman Tackett said.

Anglers 16 years old and up must have a Delaware fishing license while children under 16 years old do not need a license, per state code, for “Fishing Close to Home” organized by Department of Community Services administrator Jane Rattenni. The state Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control will have fishing license information and a casting game for children. Hagley Museum will have a craft and a fish ladder diorama.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J. forecasts mostly sunny, beautiful weather with a high of 51 degrees Saturday. To view NCCTV’s film about the fish stocking event at Glasgow, please click on this link,
